Blessings Before Eating

על הלחם מברך Over bread, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, הַמּוֹצִיא לֶֽחֶם מִן הָאָֽרֶץ:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, hammoṣiʾ leḥem mīn haʾareṣ:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.

על תבשיל מחמשת מיני דגן ועל מאפה ממינים אלה (חוץ מן הלחם), ועל האורז מברך Over a cooked dish made from one of the five grains, or a baked good from these grains (other than bread), and over rice, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא מִינֵי מְזוֹנוֹת:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, boreʾ mine mĕzonoth:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who creates varieties of sustenance.

על היין מברך Over wine, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא פְרִי הַגֶּפֶן:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, boreʾ fĕri haggefen:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine.

על פירות העץ מברך Over fruit of the tree, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא פְרִי הָעֵץ:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, boreʾ fĕri ha'eṣ:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the tree.

על פירות האדמה מברך Over fruit of the ground, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא פְרִי הָאֲדָמָה:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, boreʾ fĕri haʾădhama:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the ground.

על דבר שאין גדולו מן הארץ כגון בשר, דגים, חלב, גבינה, וכדומה. וכן על משקים (חוץ מן היין) מברך Over something that does not grow from the ground — such as meat, fish, milk, or cheese — and over beverages other than wine, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, שֶׁהַכֹּל נִהְיָה בִּדְבָרוֹ:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, shehakkol nihya bidhvaro:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, by whose word all things came to be.

Blessings over Smells

על ריח טוב שבעצים מברך Over a pleasant fragrance from wood, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא עֲצֵי בְשָׂמִים:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, boreʾ 'ăṣe vĕsamim:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who creates fragrant trees.

על ריח טוב שבעשבים מברך Over a pleasant fragrance from an herb, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא עִשְׂבֵּי בְשָׂמִים:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, boreʾ 'isbe vĕsamim:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who creates fragrant plants.

על ריח טוב שאינו עץ ולא עשב, או שהוא מסופק בו בין עץ לעשב, מברך Over a pleasant fragrance that is neither wood nor herb, or uncertain between the two, one recites:

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא מִינֵי בְשָׂמִים:

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, boreʾ mine vĕsamim:

Blessed are You, Adonay our God, King of the universe, who creates varieties of spices.
