Baqashoth
Dinim
It is stated in the holy Zohar (Zohar Ḥadash, Bereshith 18), and these are its words [translated]: Israel is obligated, at the hour when the dawn rises, to get up and rouse themselves with songs and praises before the Holy One, blessed be He. What is the reason? Because they take up the song after the ministering angels, and the Holy One, blessed be He, is present with them below — as it is written, "and those who seek Me early shall find Me." And Rabbi Yehuda said: provided that, once he has begun, he does not break off until he prays at sunrise. Thus far its words.
And indeed, many good and upright people did so in the previous generation, and accordingly baqashoth were set out in the siddurim before the prayer. In our generation those who do so are a select few, and therefore we have not brought here the "songs of baqashoth" as they were printed in the old siddurim. Yet I have seen that in the communities that came from Babylonia some small trace of it still remains: before the prayer — though they do not say it at dawn — they recite the pizmon "Adhon 'Olam"; on Shabbath some add the pizmon "Yom haShabbath en kamohu," and afterward "WeShameru vene Yisrael," and so on. After it they say "Rabbi Yehuda said: Happy is the one whose toil is in Torah," and so on, "Rabbi Ḥananya," and the Qaddish "'Al Yisrael."

shiru laʾel nĕvonay, shire rĕnanay, shabbath wĕroʾsh ḥodhesh yaḥadh yom zeh laAdhonay.
Sing to God, my discerning ones, my songs of joy: Shabbath and Rosh Chodesh together — this day is Adhonay's.
yĕqar shĕmo hodhi'u, lakkol wĕhashmi'u, zammĕru hari'u, lifne hammelekh Adhonay.
Make known the glory of His name to all, and let it be heard; sing, raise a shout before the King, Adhonay.
'oz lo bĕmiqdasho, tĕnu ḥushu lĕdhorsho, hithhalĕlu bĕshem qodhsho, yismaḥ lev mĕvaqshe Adhonay.
Ascribe strength to Him in His sanctuary; hasten to seek Him. Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek Adhonay rejoice.
qĕdhoshim shimkha yodhu, waḥăsadhekha yaggidhu, ʾaf yĕhalĕlu wi'idhu, shamayīm pilʾăkha Adhonay.
The holy ones give thanks to Your name and tell of Your kindnesses; they praise and bear witness — the heavens, to Your wonders, Adhonay.
baʾthi wĕqiddashti, shimkha wĕshirim sharti, wĕʾelleh higgashti, bikkurim laAdhonay.
I have come and hallowed Your name, and I have sung songs; and these I have brought — first fruits to Adhonay.
Adhon Olam
Rabbi Yehuda heḤasidh, Rav Hai Gaon and Rav Sherira Gaon are cited as attaching great merit to saying Adhon 'Olam with concentration, at the outset of prayer.
ʾădhon 'olam ʾăsher malakh, bĕṭerem kol-yĕṣir nivraʾ.
Master of the world, who reigned before any creature was created.
lĕ'eth na'ăsa vĕḥefṣo kol, ʾăzay melekh shĕmo niqraʾ.
When all was made by His will, then was His name proclaimed King.
wĕʾaḥăre kikhloth hakkol, lĕvaddo yimlokh noraʾ.
And after all has ceased to be, He alone will reign, the Awesome One.
wĕhuʾ haya wĕhuʾ howeh, wĕhuʾ yihyeh bĕthifʾara.
He was, He is, and He will be, in splendor.
He is one, and there is no second to compare to Him or set beside Him.
bĕli reʾshith bĕli thakhlith, wĕlo ha'oz wĕhammisra.
Without beginning, without end; His are the power and the dominion.
bĕli 'erekh bĕli dhimyon, bĕli shinnuy uthĕmura.
Without measure, without likeness, without change or alteration.
bĕli ḥibbur bĕli firudh, gĕdhol-khoaḥ ughĕvura.
Without joining, without division; great in power and might.
wĕhuʾ ʾeli wĕḥay goʾăli, wĕṣur ḥevli bĕ'eth ṣara.
He is my God, my living Redeemer, my Rock in my anguish in time of trouble.
wĕhuʾ nissi umanos li, mĕnath kosi bĕyom ʾeqraʾ.
He is my banner and my refuge, the portion of my cup on the day I call.
wĕhuʾ rofeʾ wĕhuʾ marpeʾ, wĕhuʾ ṣofeh wĕhuʾ 'ezra.
He is the healer and He is the cure; He watches, and He is the help.
bĕyadho ʾafqidh ruḥi, bĕ'eth ʾishan wĕʾa'ira.
Into His hand I entrust my spirit, when I sleep and when I wake.
wĕ'īm ruḥi gĕwiyyathi, Adhonay li wĕloʾ ʾiraʾ.
And with my spirit, my body too: Adhonay is with me, I shall not fear.
bĕmiqdasho taghel nafshi, mĕshiḥenu yishlaḥ mĕhera.
In His sanctuary my soul will rejoice; may He send our Messiah speedily.
wĕʾaz nashir bĕveth qodhshi, ʾamen ʾamen shem hannoraʾ.
Then we will sing in my holy house: Amen, amen, to the awesome Name.
Yom HaShabbath En Kamohu
Acrostic: Manṣur. For Shabbath.
yom hashshabbath ʾen kamohu, berĕkho ʾĕlohim wayĕqaddĕshehu.
There is no day like the Shabbath day; God blessed it and made it holy.
miyyom riʾshon 'adh yom shishshi, liqraʾth shabbath nikhsĕfa nafshi, ki vashshabbath ʾeṣeʾ ḥofshi, wĕkhi yom mĕnuḥa ʾeqraʾehu.
From the first day to the sixth, my soul longs for Shabbath; for on Shabbath I go out free, and a day of rest I call it.
naghil wĕnismaḥ ki ṭov lĕhodhoth, ulĕzammer 'elyon 'al-khol-ʾodhoth, ki hashshabbath lanu ḥămudhoth, ʾish ba'ar loʾ yĕdha'ehu.
Let us rejoice and be glad, for it is good to give thanks and to sing to the Most High for everything; for Shabbath is our treasure — a brutish man cannot know it.
ṣiwwa la'ăsoth shabbath kahălakha, ʾaz missinay miṣwa 'ărukha, gam hiʾ lĕshomĕrah kether mĕlukha, wĕkhavodh wĕhadhar tĕ'aṭṭĕrehu.
He commanded that Shabbath be kept according to its law — a commandment set out long ago at Sinai. To the one who keeps it, it is a royal crown, and crowns him with honor and splendor.
umĕʾahăveha ḥayyim yaʾărikhu, wĕgham ṭo'ămeha ḥayyim zakhu, uvinthiv yosher hemma yelekhu, 'edhĕwothaw bĕkhol-lev yidhrĕshuhu.
Those who love it lengthen their lives, and those who savor it have merited life; they walk in the path of uprightness and seek His testimonies with a whole heart.
raṣa Adhonay uvaḥar banu, umikkol-lashon hivdilanu, uqĕdhushshath hashshabbath hinḥilanu, kol-zera' ya'ăqov kabbĕdhuhu.
Adhonay favored us and chose us, and set us apart from every tongue, and gave us the holiness of Shabbath as our inheritance. All you seed of Ya'aqov, honor Him.

The Israelite people shall keep the sabbath, observing the sabbath throughout the ages as a covenant for all time: it shall be a sign for all time between Me and the people of Israel. For in six days Adhonay made heaven and earth, [before] ceasing from work and being refreshed on the seventh day. (Exodus 31:16–17)

Rabbi Yehuda said: Happy is the one whose toil is in Torah and who gives contentment to his Maker; he grew up with a good name and departed the world with a good name. Of him Shelomo said in his wisdom: "A good name is better than fragrant oil, and the day of death than the day of birth." (Ecclesiastes 7:1) Learn much Torah, and you will be given much reward; and know that the reward of the righteous is given in the time to come.

Rabbi Ḥananya ben 'Aqashya says: The Holy One, blessed be He, wished to make Israel worthy; therefore He gave them Torah and commandments in abundance, as it is said: "Adhonay desires, for the sake of [Israel’s] vindication, to magnify and glorify the Teaching." (Isaiah 42:21; Mishnah Makkoth 3:16)
