In the Evening

שְׁמַ֖ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יְיָ֥ אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ יְיָ֥ ׀ אֶחָֽד׃

shĕma' yisraʾel Adonay ʾĕlohenu Adonay ʾeḥadh

Hear, O Israel: Adonay is our God, Adonay is One.

(בְּלַחַשׁ) בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד׃

(bĕlaḥash) barukh shem kĕvodh malkhutho lĕ'olam wa'edh

(In an undertone) Blessed is the name of His glorious kingdom forever and ever.

בְּיָדְךָ֮ אַפְקִ֢יד ר֫וּחִ֥י פָּדִ֖יתָ אוֹתִ֥י יְיָ֗ אֵ֣ל אֱמֶֽת׃

bĕyadhĕkha ʾafqidh ruḥi padhitha ʾothi Adonay ʾel ʾĕmeth

Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem me, Adonay, God of truth.

In the Morning

מוֹדֶה (אִשָּׁה: מוֹדָה) אֲנִי לְפָנֶיךָ מֶלֶךְ חַי וְקַיָּם שֶׁהֶחֱזַרְתָּ בִּי נִשְׁמָתִי בְּחֶמְלָה, רַבָּה אֱמוּנָתֶךָ׃

modheh (a woman says: modha) ʾăni lĕfanekha melekh ḥay wĕqayyam sheheḥĕzarta bi nishmathi bĕḥemla, rabba ʾĕmunathekha

I gratefully acknowledge before You, living and eternal King, that You have mercifully restored my soul within me; great is Your faithfulness.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו וְצִוָּנוּ עַל דִּבְרֵי תוֹרָה׃

barukh ʾatta Adonay, ʾĕlohenu melekh ha'olam, ʾăsher qiddĕshanu bĕmiṣwothayw wĕṣiwwanu 'al divre thora

Blessed are You, Adonay, our God, King of the universe, who sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us concerning the words of Torah.

תּוֹרָה צִוָּה־לָנוּ מֹשֶׁה מוֹרָשָׁה קְהִלַּת יַעֲקֹב׃

tora ṣiwwa-lanu mosheh morasha qĕhillath ya'ăqov

Moses commanded us the Torah, an inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.

עֹשֶׂה שָׁלוֹם בִּמְרוֹמָיו, הוּא בְּרַחֲמָיו יַעֲשֶׂה שָׁלוֹם עָלֵינוּ, וְעַל כָּל עַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן׃

'oseh shalom bimromayw, huʾ bĕraḥămayw ya'ăseh shalom 'alenu, wĕ'al kol 'ammo yisraʾel, wĕʾimru ʾamen

He who makes peace in His heights, may He in His mercy make peace upon us and upon all His people Israel; and let us say Amen.
