You sanctified the seventh day for Your name, the culmination of the making of heaven and earth; You blessed it above all days and sanctified it above all appointed times, and so it is written in Your Torah: The heavens and the earth were finished, and all their array. On the seventh day God finished the work He had made, and He ceased on the seventh day from all the work He had made. God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, for on it He ceased from all His work which God had created to do.

Moses rejoiced in the gift of his portion, for You called him a faithful servant. You set a crown of splendor on his head when he stood before You on Mount Sinai. He brought down two tablets of stone in his hand, and upon them was written the observance of Shabbat, and so it is written in Your Torah: The Children of Israel shall keep the Shabbat, observing the Shabbat throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. It is a sign forever between Me and the Children of Israel, for in six days Adhonay made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He ceased and rested. You did not give it, Adhonay our God, to the nations of the lands, nor did You bestow it, our King, upon idol-worshippers; nor will the uncircumcised dwell in its rest, for You gave it in love to Your people Israel, to the seed of Jacob whom You chose. Those who keep Shabbat and call it a delight shall rejoice in Your kingship — a people who sanctify the seventh day; all of them shall be satisfied and delighted with Your goodness. You favored the seventh day and sanctified it; You called it the most precious of days, a remembrance of the work of creation.

You ordained Shabbat, You desired its offerings, You commanded the details of its laws together with the order of its libations. Those who delight in it inherit glory forever; those who taste of it merit life; and even those who love its teaching have chosen greatness. At Sinai they were commanded the details of its observance, as is fitting: May it be Your will, Adhonay our God and God of our ancestors, that You bring us up in joy to our land and plant us within our borders, and there we will offer before You our obligatory offerings: the daily offerings in their order and the additional offerings according to their law. The additional offering of this Shabbat day we will offer and bring near before You in love, as You have commanded us, as You wrote for us in Your Torah through Moses Your servant, as it is said: On the Shabbat day, two yearling lambs without blemish, and two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a meal offering, and its libation — this is the burnt offering of each Shabbat, in addition to the daily burnt offering and its libation.

Grant Your people rest on the Shabbat of Your covenant — rest and peace, tranquility and security — as it is written in Your Torah: The Children of Israel shall keep the Shabbat, observing the Shabbat throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. It is a sign forever between Me and the Children of Israel, for in six days Adhonay made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He ceased and rested. And it says: On the Shabbat day, two yearling lambs without blemish, and two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a meal offering, and its libation — this is the burnt offering of each Shabbat, in addition to the daily burnt offering and its libation.

Our God and God of our ancestors, be pleased with our rest; sanctify us with Your commandments and grant us a share in Your Torah; satisfy us from Your goodness and gladden us with Your salvation; purify our hearts to serve You in truth; and, Adhonay our God, grant us in love and favor Your holy Shabbat as an inheritance, and may all Israel who sanctify Your name rest in it. And we will perform before You our daily obligations and the Musaf offering. Blessed are You, Adhonay, who sanctifies the Shabbat.
